Western District of Washington Litigation Academy
WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON LITIGATION ACADEMY
FEBRUARY 25, 2020
The Litigation Academy is a partnership between the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington (WDWA) and the Federal Bar Association for the WDWA. The Academy will offer a one‐day course for attorneys looking to improve their trial skills and gain experience in federal court.
Participants will prepare and present opening statements to federal judges in a live courtroom setting and receive instruction and feedback from members of the bench and bar. Jeffery Robinson, currently the ACLU Deputy Legal Director and Director of the Trone Center for Justice and Equality and a former defense attorney from this district, is our keynote speaker.
Due to space and resource limitations, enrollment in the Academy will not exceed 25 participants. Care will be taken to admit participants from diverse backgrounds across a range of practice areas, sections of the law, and years of experience.
The 2020 Litigation Academy will take place in the U.S. District Courthouse in Seattle at 700 Stewart Street on February 25, 2020. Note that advance preparation will be required, and materials are expected to be available at least two weeks prior to the Academy date. Cost for the program, including materials, is $250; scholarships based on financial need are available.
How to Apply: Applicants should submit the attached application, along with a one‐page cover letter explaining why you are interested in the Litigation Academy, and what you hope to gain from the experience. To the extent you would like to be considered for a scholarship, please also explain the basis for your request. Any requests for scholarships are confidential. Application materials should be submitted no later than December 9, 2019 to: WDWALitigationAcademyFellow@gmail.com.
